The Colt Government is a direct descendant of the original Colt 1911A1. After more than 100 years, it's still ‘The Standard’ everyone else imitates, but no one duplicates.

The Colt 1911 still defines the standard for modern day semi-automatic pistols. The 1911 was the standard US military sidearm from 1911 to 1985 and is still frequently used by civilians, law enforcement, and military forces today. The M1911 is the best known of John Browning’s designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. In addition to the pistol itself being copied, this operating system rose to become the pre-eminent type of the 20th century and nearly all modern centrefire pistols. It is popular with civilian shooters in competitive events such as IPSC and Service shooting.
